Sounds like a fuel delivery problem in your case.
Apparently people with the same problem have had it diagnosed as a bad fuel pump. Apparently it can't hold pressure in the lines while the car is off. It's happened to 3 SULEVs that I know of.

I always thought it was for looks though On mountain bikes it's typically to either for looks or to clean the outer edge of the brake pads of dirt, water, etc. that the slotting cant reach.

Exactly what I'm thinking. It'll create a situation similar to vapor lock and priming will alleviate the symptoms.
Good thing they have long warranties, lol. $7k otherwise.
