Yes, the EBV function will detect and compensate for the brakes depending on how quickly the rears are slowing down relative to the front. It's a subfunction of ABS.
One of the stated benefits is being able to run large rear brakes.

I think it mounts up and is electrically compatible, but the M3 one is supposed to be a heavy duty version.
