Never made sense to me why you'd have the choice between normally RWD and FWD and go with the latter. But it is more efficient and congruent with the chassis I guess. They don't make tall, short wheelbase RWD cars for a reason.

Do not want to ever do spark plug job on newer Mercedes V8. 16 spark plugs and 8 ignition cables to replace, and very little engine bay space...

Yeah, I've had a hard time figure out the reasoning as well.

I guess a transverse engine with attached transaxle is just really compact, really rigid, uses the least pieces, and is the cheapest. It's really just that battle to save a few hundred dollars on the cost to make the car I think.
