Frank, vynil wrapping only lasts a few years. Even ones that are rated for a 6 years are basically crap after 2 or 3, and removal is pretty likely to damage your paint; it's not uncommon to find razor cuts in your paint after a vynil removal. I wouldn't do it dude.

Having recently removed vinyl wrap (3M Dinoc) from my removed trunk deck lid I'd disagree that it impacts the surface underneath if removed carefully. It took a little longer than I'd hoped but no marring of the paint whatsoever. I will say the finish (cf look) has faded a bit in the 6 months plus since install but I do live in CA and wash my car frequently (though never machine wash beyond water jet spray and tried to take it easy on the wrapped areas). I think my wrapped roof still looks ok.

Why not?

If he uses enough layers so it peels off uniformly and doesn't go full retard and take an industrial grade pressure washer to it, nothing will happen.

It's not that; I've applied and removed Plasti-Dip from my car successfully. It just looks...blehhh.

I think vinyl and Plasti-Dip both enjoy a reputation that is primarily caused by improper installation, improper removal, or wrong expectations about longevity/durability of the material.
