If I had smog checked the Lexus last week, I think I could have just passed
The check engine light came on Thursday or so

the shop said the thermostat replacement would be about 1.5 hour shop time

Never worked on a Lexus before. Find and post a diy. But shouldn't be to bad. Really depends on how tight space is and how much needs to be removed.

so i'm reading some lexus forum posts ... might try pulling fuse 11 or disconnecting the battery to reset the CEL temporarily... and see if i can pass smog without replacing the thermostat
