I've never looked that closely to an non-M fitted with an M hood. From what I understand you have to use washers to space the fenders a bit wider. How much wider we talking about and does it look real obvious? Especially where the fender meets the door?

I didn't use washers. Just pulled the fenders. Apparently its really hard to get the gaps to be perfect.

Remember to also unbolt the fender from the bottom, by the leading edge of the side skirts. The washers, at least for me, were mainly to line up the height of the fender with the hood. Lateral adjustments are made by pulling the fenders in/out accordingly.
