W124 isn't bad, and very DIY-able. W140 is exceedingly complicated, and the V12 engine that I want just makes things a) more expensive, b) harder to access, and c)more complex.

The old Mercedes 600 puts it to shame, though: $11,000 for a window switch.

But a pristine W140, with its self-closing doors, argon-filled double-pane glass windows, and smooth V12 hum, is juuuuuuuuust right. It's so...ministerial.

the s420 had that glass and the self closing doors, it was fun to drive, but the seats were hard as rocks.

Those were included across the range, and so were the little aerials on the earlier models, but they took them out post-1996 and offered PDC as an option.
