Yeah, I never bothered changing those gap fillers. I would if I could ensure that the heatsink still clamped down enough without it, lol.

okay, so just by feel, i can tell the computer definitely isn't running as hot as it was before.

turns on, i see the screen in BIOS, or w/e it is and it says launch restore or some **** or just normal startup. i do the restore, computer works. sounds like everything is working fine, but the screen is black.

i just hardbooted it, and the screen still isn't working.

based on the fact that i had a graphics overheating issue before, i think that my graphics card is ****ed. and from the thread i made in OT a while back the gpu is on the mobo, so the way i think about it, i'm basically ****ed.

ahh man, this month just keeps getting better and better. ****.

/rant.

D'oh. Have you tried hooking it up to an external monitor at all?

when you get a few bucks, invest in an external hard drive
for backup and transferring

i bought a 1 terabyte external hard drive and just started using it
$70 or so from staples (this was several months ago so prices might be even lower now)
it's really nice to have all that extra storage + i can easily transfer data from one computer to the next

It does, but it rules out the screen as the problem.

yeah, it seems like the GPU is overheating. i'll try again in a few hours. maybe i could figure out how to keep it cool.

the heatsink seemed like it fit snug on it. there was no play when i pressed on it.

Then yeah, the solder joints underneath the chip probably cracked. Common problem due to stress from repeated thermal expansion and contraction.

Very iffy. The chips are BGA right? It'd be like doing the xbox towel trick, but you'd have to use a heat gun to reflow the joints. Unfortunately, it's more likely that you'll just kill it altogether, haha.

ok so im going to get tires for both cars with my tax return monies.

Problem is like most of SGC I cant make up my mind regarding what I want. I would really like some bigger wider but lighter wheels for the 6. Also need to clear some space in my shed and which means selling stuff. Have oem 14s from the 6 with sh!t rubber and the ACS reps from the 3 with decent tires. Also considering selling the wheels I have on the 6 now to get something else but I think i would be better off refinishing them myself first to get top dollar. There is a local set of work equips 17x8/9 et25/38 with tires that wouldnt make a bad deal just wish they were lower et.

sigh what to do. thoughts?
