This is true. OC is one of the few places I can stand, but I didn't even like it all that much. Too much glitter and charm and no substance.

Define "substance".

I don't think OC has glitter. I don't think it's supposed to. It's a workaday place, someplace you come home to after the feverish activity of LA. It would be silly to expect anything more out of suburbia.

OC has its shopping malls. I don't mind a little suburbia, but OC takes it to an extreme.

OC has plenty of parks; if that's not enough, LA, IE, SD are all a short drive away. Recreation? You have 100K+ posts...History? Most of suburban America doesn't have an illustrious history.

I find it hilarious when people expect OC to be this magical place that is all things to all people. That's LA. And even there, you can't have everything.

In any case, it's hard to quantify the intangible qualities of that area that make me dislike it.
