i borrowed a friend's car when i was in college in new hampshire
to drive this girl back to the airport after she came to visit me for almost a week
(oh that story has a lot more to it but i digress)
so i drop her off at the airport.. and then on the way back ... i am on this little road through some small town
get stuck behind a huge truck .. like a construction truck or something going 25 mphs in a 35 and i was getting impatient
as soon as the truck turned off the road, i accelerated
i was doing 65 mph on the two lane road ... and the road was starting to curve up ahead
now this was in the middle of winter, the snow had been plowed .. but you know how they can leave a strip of snow in the middle?
i saw the strip of snow and i thought to myself, 'oh, i should be careful...'
but what happens when you keep looking at something while driving? you start drifting toward it

so as the road started curving to the right, the front left tire ran over a patch of snow and the car slid to the left
i jerked the wheel back to the right and *wheeeeee* i flew off the raised road
when the car hit the snow covered field (think the road was about 5-6 ft raised) the front bumper fell off
the car just kept sliding and sliding ... i had my foot on the brake the whole time and my hands death gripping the steering wheel
(this is getting really long but since i started i will finish)
and the car just does not stop
then i see ... a house up ahead ... the house is next to the raised road with the first floor level with the road... and next to the road is the foundation covered with huge rocks on the outside
and i was headed straight for it
i was like OMFG
about ... 20-30 ft before the house, there was a small creek.. maybe a foot or two across
and it was frozen solid
the car dipped down, hit the frozen creek ... that's when the airbags deployed
and then the car came up the other side of the creek and got airborne
car hit a wooden shed that was attached to the house, turned 90 degrees to the right, and stopped

now when i got out of the car, i saw no tracks from the frozen creek to where the car stopped... so it got airborne and flew the last 20-30 ft before crashing
and you could see the tire tracks on the snowy field leading up to the creek ... probably about half a football field length

the car was totalled.. it was a pontiac sunfire or something like that
i was shaken up but not hurt too badly
just jammed my wrists and my head and neck bothered me later
i walked up to the house and rang the doorbell .. no answer
then i crossed the street ... and the neighbor was like, "oh i thought i heard something..."
called the state troopers ... then they called a tow truck ...

and here's the kicker... they went back to where i flew off the road
measured my skid marks with a thingy from the trunk of the patrol car
and wrote me a speeding ticket for 60 or 63mph or something

wtf... i asked, "do you have to give me this? ... i mean, i just totalled a car..."
oh and when we looked at the skid marks, i missed a telephone pole by a foot ... could have just died right there
the fact that the car slid for so long on the snow covered field helped me to avoid more serious injuries
anyway yeah
that's what happened

Dude, the way you describe the car sliding and catching air like that, you'd think it was a scene from a movie.
And the speeding ticket just sucks.

You'll have to tell me the other story another time, lol.

Ill buy.

Shouldn't have been speeding! Only time I wrote someone out of a crash, it was pouring rain here in la, and you know when someone spits in Southern California they crash? Well they blew by me in pouring rain (I was going maybe 55). Wrote them unsafe speed for traffic or roadway conditions. They didn't even get mad.

But glad ur still with us.

i know... it was stupid of me to speed that much on the narrow road .. and to stare at the stupid patch of snow

but yeah
because of that experience, i hate driving around snow and get really nervous
