Not sure about when and where they were invented, but I recall France as being the place where they were introduced into Western culture (along with buttons on suit sleeves).

Yeah, drove 30 miles in traffic, picked up maxx, drove home, parked the car. Pulled it out of the garage to check the oil level and see what was leaking while the car was running, then I heard a *pppsssssssttttt* , bam ... coolant abortion everywhere.
