I had a 3-ring binder with every receipt down to the wiper blades (doesn't include fuel, ins, reg, and all that) and an excel spreadsheet that I gave to the buyer. He was pretty shocked.

Mods and maintenance. Car was a little under $12K when I bought it. I drove 40K mi/yr so running costs were compacted pretty quickly. Had not I gone to work and school, didn't work as far, and not gone to Vegas and SF every month, my mileage would've fallen within a more reasonable range.

So Grant, am I mentally conditioned enough for S-Class sticker shock? It will be a "church" car (driven occasionally), and there's not much mods you can do to it apart from wheels and some obscure European options.

coil failure is rampant, worse than e46, so check the cost on those, and for 8 should be about $1600.

Come to think of it, I was able to sell some of the parts back, but I would say it was still well over $12K. Weird, considering I didn't have anything crazy like a new engine or FI or that custom interior that I wanted.

Even on the later models? I know the early ones suffered from the biodegradable wiring issue that biodegraded as you were driving the car. I'd like to get anything from 97-99, preferably a black '99 S500.

It had coil failure even then? Not really surprising, though, lol.

i remember the s420 when it was new, it was like being in a vacuum, couldn't hear anything. 13 years later... not so soundproof.

That car is very deceiving, it looks and feels like a tank, so you would think it was built like one.
