Upgrading my Home Theater Audio
Hey I'm in the process of upgrading my home theater. We just picked up a 65" panasonic plasma to replace my 65" Mitsubishi Medallion Projection tv.
Now its time to upgrade the audio. Currently I have the standard 5.1 bose cube speakers and sub. I was just wondering what would be the best way to upgrade the sound? I have a 5 channel Sony receiver. Ideally I would like to incorporate 2 large magneplanar speakers that I have in my home office and possibly add a powered subwoofer. So basically my question is, can I just disconnect the front left/right speakers (leaving the bose cubes to be my center and surround channels) and replace with the magneplanar? I would then also add a sub via the receiver (there is one open rca "subwoofer" plug) Could anyone also suggest a powered sub that would go well with this setup? Thanks

If you really love them and want to use them for surround sound, you should buy the same type for center and rears.
I think Earthquake subs are the best for the money. I have two 15MKVs myself. ![]() EarthquakeSound.com Check out BagEnd and others if you want more expensive than $3K subs. http://www.magnepan.com/model_CC3 http://www.magnepan.com/home_theater You really should go with separates or a very very good receiver like a Marantz 8002 or similar. Separates start around $3.5K for entry level and go from there. The new Marantz separates are quite nice at $5K for both. I personally have a Marantz 7002 and a Cinenova Grande with I am very happy with ($6K) ![]()

Sure you could but remember, in surround sound, most voices come from the center channel. Your front left and right are effect speakers for the most part. I would upgrade that at the same time.
As for subwoofers, what is your price range?
