On the otherside of your fuel tank is the fuel level sensor. It sounds like this may be causing your problem. Before you buy a new one take the top off and check to make sure the hose for the suction jet pump is properly attached. Sometimes the hose can fall off and not allow fuel to be transferred to the side of the tank that the fuel pump is on. If you don't have a Bentley manual you can go to to see a diagram of the fuel system so you will know what your looking for.
