Raise the hood, start the car, then have someone sit in the drivers seat and use the windshield washer.

While water is being sprayed onto the windshield, look all around the tank, hoses, nozzles, etc.

While it is being used, the leak should be a lot easier to find, since this seems to be when it accurs.

It probably has a cut or split in one of the hoses that lets a lot more water pump out than normal. I would look at the passenger side closely, since this is the weaker stream. The water is going somewhere.

Good Luck

Hey my car has the same problem. I took it to BMW today maybe like 3 hours ago and they told me( without looking at the car) that its probably my headlight washers. they said its usally the first thing to go when it comes to washer fluid equipment.

The guy sounded very sure and said his car had the same problem. 150 dollers a light, so i got the hell outta there.

let me know if it is the headlight spray or something else.

Add windshield washer fluid for the light to go off. If it's full, you most likely have a bad fluid sensor.

Bumping an old thread. Just wondering why the weep hole on the pump itself? Mine started leaking out of there (headlight pump) recently. Why the heck is it necessary? I sealed the weep hole up and am going to run with it until it fails. Worst case scenarios? Leaks again, burn out pump, maybe blow a fuse? I'm not really concerned, just more wondering why bother with the weep hole.

Replace the hose running to the pump. I had this issue too. It would stay full, until I used it a few times. It turned out the hose was leaking badly when it was pumping. So, I would lose a 1/4 tank just washing my windshield. I had replaced the pump and the grommet/screen. But, it turned out to be the hose.
