However you dont need the DICE if you dont need to change the track youre listening to using the steering wheel/radio track controls and if you dont need the track information on the radio digital display. Instead make your own AUX cable

He's a pre 2002, which do not have AUX capabilities. DICE is his only solution.

For pre Sept. 02, there is also the Blitzsafe connector but that goes in the trunk. BMW used to (still do maybe?) sell an ipod interface that goes in the glovebox for pre-03 models. I looked into it a couple years back, but can't find it online anymore.

Not true. Intravee II is the BEST solution on the market, and works with all the ibus BMWs. Its the most expensive, but you get what you pay for (if you have OEM Nav, there is no other solution thats even close)

Customer upgradable firmware (not with the DICE) and uses an Alpine KCA-420i ipod adapter (rock solid): http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/prod...model=KCA-420i

Check out the youtube videos comparing the DICE vs Intravee II:

Since you're in CA, you would get this in a matter of a day or two.

This is what I installed in my 05 zhp a couple of months ago. The install should be a lot easy connecting at the radio vs. trunk. Plus shortier signal run should make the Ipod react faster. Just be extremely careful when disconnecting the radio harness. DO NOT FORCE IT TO DISCONNECT. I learned the hard way and broke a pin off the radio connection and had to send my radio to Alpine for a $150 repair. I run the Dice in clickwheel mode. Works great.

I like the Dice approach - they do run some people crazy when they glitch (the scrolling locks up, for example), but they're still a lot more useful than other approaches. I just leave an old, beat up Ipod in the trunk rather than trying to dock and undock one every time I get in the car. I suppose if I was going to do that, I'd have just built an aux. input cable and routed it through the glovebox (and used the Ipod controls directly).

Literally true, but since the signals travel at nearly the speed of light, a few extra feet of cable isn't gonna make a huge difference...

No different than the BMW kits, including no text.

was wondering about this as well. other than the absence of text, the more important thing for me is sound quality. I am assuming that since this, USSpec and DICE are all direct-interface adapters, then the sound quality should be the same, correct ?
