Some of these tats... Seriously... Have fun with them when you are 45-50 married and have kids.

That made me think of this e-mail I got one time that featured various people who did extreme tattooing, ear gauging, lip stretching, etc. The question under each one was simply something like, "Why won't you hire me?" I died laughing.

EDIT: Found it in website form. http://southflorida.sun-sentinel.com...9.photogallery

I really want a semi-abstract phoenix tattoo on my left shoulder/upper arm. I feel it's the perfect way to represent a major time in my life where I turned everything around and put myself back on track for success instead of continuing in the downward spiral I had been trapped in. But I'm struggling to see good ideas online. I want it to look masculine, symbolizing a lot of rage and re-emergence out of the ashes strong than before. I guess I should really talk to an artist and see what he/she can come up with, lol.

AHAHAHAHA! One of my buddies just texted me saying, "You should get the BMW logo. You're obsessed now." We were having a conversation about tattoos and which would be considered appropriate and meaningful yesterday. He just picked up from where we left off.

Sure, I like BMW, but I cannot see myself getting the logo tattooed on me. Besides... with the way the world is, I may have their lawyers knocking on my door trying to get me for copyright infringement or something.

Who gives a sh!t what other people do? They're not hurting you, get over it. Plus I'm fairly certain that by the time I'm 45-50 and married with children I won't give a fvck. I generally couldn't care less what people think right now and I only see that getting stronger with age.

I guess so. I wasn't always... I use to love tattoos, and still over a young girl with them.

But a couple summers ago my wife and I were on the beach and a couple walked by (mid-40's) with their 2 kids. The father had a few tattoos on his arms and legs. Honestly, it just looked trashy. And since then I haven't been a huge fan of tattoos.

That experience, plus the fact that they are no longer original. EVERYONE has a tattoo....For example:

20 years ago, if you were a badass you got a rose tattoo.
15 years ago it was barb wire
10 years ago it was stars
5 years ago it was skull and crossbones, etc.

Now they are all played and these people are stuck with them for life.

Granted, there are still some neat truly original pieces on some people. But the fact remains, one day most of us grow out of our phases. We get married, have kids, get real jobs... And that Punx for Life tattoo on your forearm will no longer be appropriate.

All just my opinion of course.

+1. You don't get a tattoo because you think everyone else will like it. You get it because you want it and you believe you can live with that decision for the rest of your life.

I think you fail to realize how much better the quality is now. Old tattoos look like blobs whereas today's are much more detailed and done with better inks.

My back right after it was completed:

And after a touch up a few months later (re-outlined the eagle and shaded the globe a little more):

Planning on covering up the tribal soon. I got it when I was 15 or 16 years old because I thought it would be "cool" just to have a tattoo...

Just got this one last night on my left shoulder:

Weird angle. It looks 100 times better in person.

6 month rule when it comes to tattoos... if you want one, sit on the tattoo idea for 6 months, if you still want it... get it.
