e31..best designed/produced bmw ever?

So, my dad owns a '97 840ci and every time I go back home for break, I stare at it say to myself "what a beautiful car". And I got to thinking, is it the e31 the most beautiful car that BMW ever made? And I'm not adding any of the redesigned versions of models made by aftermarket companies or anything like that into the mix, just the car that you got directly from the BMW.

Also, before you make a hasty decision... look at the car for what it was. It was made to be car that you could run the Autobahn all day long doing 120+ and still be able to walk when you got home at the end of the day. I would definitely put it into the category of the GT cars (and no, not an all-out sports car). Furthermore, look at how much technology was in it for the early-mid 90's. For instance, the front windows go up when you hit 100mph so there is less wind turbulence in the cabin; the windshield washers were heated so they wouldn't freeze in the winter; the V8 in an 840ci was (and still is, even 12yrs later with no tune up) capable of 25mpg highway; etc.

In truth, I could probably sit here for another hour trying to come up with facts about it, but it's late and I have to wake up in a few hours to go work on a car for the Mini-Baja Club (that's another story). So, I'm going to say goodnight for now but before I do...
I'm going to have to put my vote in. As you can see it looks like I'm extremely biased already towards it and I probably am but I'm still only 99% sure that my answer is yes. So please, either add to my 99% and make it 100 or make me go the other way on another model. If you are going to try a sway my vote, I look forward to what you have to contribute.
Thanks and goodnight from a 19yr-old college student with nothing better to do on a Tuesday morning at 2:30! Have to love college life!

P.S.
The smaller photo is my dad's car taken on a camera phone.

Why should I look at it for what it was [designed for] when your poll asks an unqualified "most beautiful"? The answer to that question is definitely "no".

Theres something about classic bmw's that I love

Imo, for its time, the csi 3.0 is one of my favorite bmw's.

The e31 is nice but far from the best.

They say its called the 850 because every time you touch it, it costs you at least $850.

But to be fair, which V12 isn't relatively problematic?

But have you ever sat in those seats? You just melt into them.
I would trade the steering wheel out for the csi version. Besides that, I love the interior.
BTW, it's from the 90's and it was "high-end" compared to the other models out at the time.

My bad, it was early in the morning.
I think I was going for the overall car design, engineering, technology, etc.

I've bugged him about that since he's got the car and even if I bought them for him he probably wouldn't put them on. He likes the smoothness of his stock 16's (they're extremely wide for 16's, though). When I inherit the car, i might put on M-Parallels, or OEM style 42 (from the 2002 e39) or BBS style 5.

The V12's did have more problems than the V8's (one of the reason's my dad got the 840ci over an 850ci or csi). That's why, I think, BMW incorporated the "limp-back-home" feature into the V12's engine.
For those who don't know, the engine was capable of running on 6 cylinders in case there was some sort of problem. Not really sure of details, but still very crafty for BMW.
8's have always been known for having one of the higher maintenance problems of the BMW line up, but when they're out of the shop they are a blast to drive!!
