Please advise me with on ICE install!

I'm going to upgrade the ICE in my 'vert over the Easter weekend. I currently have the non H-K setup (Business head unit with standard speakers). I want to keep the OEM head unit, so I plan to do the following:

-DICE IPOD controller
-4 channel amp mounted in boot
-13cm or 17cm components in front doors
-13cm components in rear passenger side panels.

The part I need advice on is this: I need to run my amp from the standard head unit's speaker level outputs. I am unsure how to go about this. I will be running new speaker wire from my amp in the boot to my new speakers throughout the car, so how do I hook up the input to the amp? Do I simply tap into the rear speaker wire coming from the head unit?

Also, are all amps capable of running off speaker level inputs or do I need to search one out?

TIA

Even the non-HK systems have an amp, in most it would be located in the drivers side rear trunk area. You might check there since it would save time. However, the link between the Radio and the Amp is not line level or Speaker Level, its Balanced Differential, so you would need a converter or a compatible amp (not that many). There is a list in this section.

Unfortunately you can't pull speaker level inputs since the Amp has X-overs built in.

hope this helps

I did basically the same thing your looking to do, new comps in the front and rear, and 4 channel amp with OEM head and DICE kit. The best solution is to use an active unit like the Audiocontrol LC6i to convert the factory head's balanced signal. This way you get zero noise and perfect signal to feed any amp you want. I would actually recommend using the factory wiring going to the speakers, it is actually a decent gauge and quality and since it is all going into the trunk where the factory amp is located, you can make all connections from the amplifier there.
