Gun Control Essay need help (JJ, Glockman, and bleeding hearts too)

Im writing a persuasive speech on why citizens should be allowed to carry firearms, and im a bit stuck on coming up with a third argument, give me some ideas.

So far my two arguments are that an armed citizen can react quicker in a situation than a police officer can (having to receive a 911 call and get to the incident).

My other argument is that people would be less likely to commit crimes if they knew an average citizen could be carrying a weapon.

Again i need to come up with a third argument, and for the Obama lovers i need some counter arguments.

You hit the two big ones. Argument #3 could be our 2nd Amendment right. It doesn't say anything about carrying of course, but it doesn't hurt your case either.

Seriously though, as a point for your second argument, I remember reading that a country was going to invade us back in the day, until they read our constitution. They figured that everyone would have a gun and they would be outnumbered so the plan never went through. I can't remember the details...

20/20 just did a report called "if only I had a gun" or something like that and these kids were put in a situation in school to pull their guns on the shooter. in the mock shooting the kids said they were afraid of shooting their friends and that they cuoldnt pull it out in time do be effective. check it out maybe that will help for the counter

Of course they coudln't pull a gun on their friend in a simulation...they weren't really having their lives endangered.

That sounds like a foolish story to me. I know that if somebody was shooting people, regardless of whether or not they were my friend, I would take them down if my life were in danger.

I love guns but to be honest your first two reasons are B.S.

Stick with what the constitution says about a well armed militia being critical to the security of a free county.

Looking at the USSR, 3rd Reich, China, etc...
Disarming the citizens, curfews, laws like the PATRIOT act, martial laws, etc. is the beginning of absolute control over its citizens.

Citizens shouldn't be allowed to carry firearms. Just hunters and police.

The fact that some guns are legal and some are not blows holes in the ammendment arguement. The government obviously has the right to tell you which guns you can "bear" and which you cannot "bear". It's just a matter of time until the population in the U.S. is educated enough to distinguish the best way forward, which is strict gun control.

We are going to get your guns, eventually.
