Do people change?

Really just curious as to others opinions on this subject as it came up the other day in conversation, and figured I'd get a lot of responses on this forum.

Do you think people really change?

Or do we just not see them as what they really are for whatever reason?

Btw, I'm referring to everyone here, Friends, Girlfriends, Family, Anyone.

Short answer: No, a least not forever. People might change their behavior for a short period of time but will almost always revert to their most basic character.

lol... No.

People can make an effort but their true nature is always there and will reveal itself eventually. "Making an effort" is a burden that most people will bear just as long as it suits them. They will cast it off every chance they get in exchange for mental relief and just hope they don't get caught. The temporary relief is apparently well worth the risk considering everyone gives in at some point.

What varies is the aspect of one's character that we're talking about. Not everyone has the same weaknesses and is subject to the same temptations.

Depends on age, as people do change as they grow up.

So true. It is more than likely that if the person wronged you; YOUR perception of them may not change, irregardless of whether or not they actually changed.

Yes and no. I believe people dont really change, unless some drastic event happens in their life that causes them to.

Changing and maturing are not the same IMO. Personality is a bit a nurture and a bit of nature, and that will determine the type of person you will become.

People grow, whether that be more mature or less. People don't change though.

lol, they changed to what they really are. Take for example my Bro-in-law's korean wife. When they started dating, she cooked, clean, hard working person. They own a small business, at first she helped out, now she's never there, always with her friends. He's getting thinner by the day. He's getting screwed b/c she's changed to her old self. They are married and expecting a child. Poor guy.

Yes people change, in fact all the time. Just think about your friends in high school. The jock that once had tons of confidence, now bald and fat doesn't want to leave the house. The geek that once was shy is now a doctor and banging nurses. Change can be good or bad. But saying people don't change is a false statement.

I think some people can change, but it takes a lot of effort and motivation, along with plenty of time. most people don't feel a desire to change if its for anyone but themselves....

i have to say yes but honestly some of the posts here are both right and wrong. people don't inherently change their base personalities unless it is an absolute necessary for their well being. i vote yes because people can change for the better or worse as they age or have life changing event's occur to them, good example is when a woman has a child something like that forever changes their mentality in some way shape or form....

what youre basically saying is that people change back to their old selves, which is not really change at all..
