How can you make the seatbelt light stay on?

The seatbelt light on the instrument cluster comes on and dies within a couple of seconds. It looks like it's just on a timer, cause even if you fasten the seatbelt, it stays on until the predetermined time and only then does it die.

Can I hardwire something to make the light stay on or have the beeper go off (after the car is started) until the seatbelt is fastened?

For the record: I NEVER drive without a seatbelt. (Good) Old habit I picked up from working on a mine once.

INFO: I have non-electric, non-heated leather seats.

Sorry, just noticed your seats are way different than mine. Mine are heated, electric, leather sport seats.

So the wiring for this function will prolly go with the electrics of the seat?

In the case of the electric sports seats YES... the seat harness and the seatbelt harness are connected. If you remove the seat or luck under it you can see that it is one big piece. The seatbelt part on the seat and the seat are 1

I have the sport seats and my seatbelt light also comes on for a few seconds, and then goes off regardless of whether I fasten the belts or not. Is this a fault or by design?

Also I have an airbag warning light that my independant isnt able to diagnose - but he thought it might be related to a passenger occupancy sensor. Is it lilkely these two things are related?

What about the passenger side? If there is somebody sat in that seat do you get a seatbelt warning light (if they dont fasten the belt) or does it not work like that for the passenger?

I get a constan airbag light so clearly a problem

I was lead to believe this was a setting in the car memory that could be toggled on/off by the dealer. In most US spec cars the light stays on until you buckle up, and apparently in European cars it's normally set to go off automatically after a few seconds. It also does this on mine.

As to the passenger, the car probably uses the seat occupancy sensor to determine whether it should keep the light on or not.

Mine is a EU , light goes away after a few seconds whether its buckled or not.

One question tho ... bmw have a function to disable the airbag from deploying if no one is in the car (parked and seatbelt isn't buckled), this will probably disable that function will it ?

Well yes, but the airbags will always deploy in a crash if the car is turned on because you cant really be driving without anyone in the drivers seat.

My Ride: e46 facelift
Ive had a e46 in UK and now one in Australia and both have the light come and go off as in a timer. Has no affect if its bucked/not or passenger seated/empty. IMHO this light has no value or use in its present form.

I know the C class got the sensors in the passenger seat to trigger a buckle-up light, but not in the E46. The E90 got it though.
