iPhone 3G - Music/Dock in ashtray

I could have sworn I saw a product for sale from a sponsor that would play music from the 3G over the radio, charge it and it had a dock that fit inside of the ashtray and looked clean. Anybody have a link?

If the link does not work, it is at the BSW web site, under accessories.

The DICE kit handles the integration, we've never recommended the ashtray docks as they add no additional features.

Here's the kit you need:

DICE - SILVERLINE iPod Integration Kit for 3 Series/M3 99-06 (Trunk Interface)

The include docking cable is all that is needed.

Question:

Can this dock's connect be modified to work with my Alpine CDA-9833? I already have an i-pod adapter for my deck but I'm not too keen about it being in my glove compartment (came that way with the car) and I think this dock looks pretty slick in the ashtray!

the manufacturer of the dock is 2point5.com you can acutally get it straight from them with a variety of connects... not sure if it has an alpine one but contacting them may get you some results.

USA Spec allows you to control the 3G and NOT get locked out like the DICE unit does. That's what I use.

That ashtray dock must be a PIA if you have a manual transmission with a short shift kit.

Ive had this for maybe 8 mos and never took any pics. I kept forgetting.

It took awhile to figure out why the regular iphone cable was not working with the docks they were giving me but i called alpine and found the usb cable they use to integrate the iphone / ipods have a different config for the contacts in the cable. they were real cool. Alpine sent Spec two extra cables for me at no cost and SPEC used the alpine ipod cable instead of the reg ipod cable and it worked like it should. it rings through the speakers, along with email, txts, etc. I have the BT integrated through the alpine so it syncs the phone book to the deck as well.

cheers.

ps. forgot to add... it also can stream whatever app you are running that has audio(ie. pandora, wunderadio, and soon to come sirius which im waiting for for howard thats it.)

the deck is the alpine ida-x100 which was last years when i got it. the new decks are better suited supposedly for iphone now but mine gives zero troubles... again, very happy. 2point5 was very accommodating.

No longer true, the SILVERLINE PRO now allows this.

id say the only feature for it to remove the ashtray i dont use and have easy access to connect any ipod quickly. all i have to do is set it in there. i dont have to open a glove box and reach for a cable...

Sunglass holder or eurotray - both solutions can safely house the iPod in case of an accident.

i have the dock for my ipod with dice, got it all from bsw, and LOVE it. definitely my favorite mod, and the thing i get the most compliments on. extremely convenient (and i have a manual) and its secure all the time (never had it fall out during any of my dumb shenanigans)

i also get to keep my cupholders, change songs on the ipod without having to look in the glovebox or go through the incredibly non-intuitive radio controls
