Fun! Tons of little spots ruined my AR1s over the winter.

I stored my wheels this winter just like every other winter, but this year something got on them and ruined the finish... just ate right through it in little round spots. I can scrape it right off with my fingernails so it's not serious corrosion or rust or anything, but it definitely ruins the finish. (The finish scrapes off when I do that.) Happened on all 4 wheels and only on the lips.

Depending on whether this brushed aluminum finish counts as polished in the shop's estimation, I can get these fixed for $125 a wheel (180 is the pricier alternative)... but for that much I might just prefer to buy a new set of wheels and keep these as backups/winters or experiment with a DIY refinishing.

Anyone ever seen anything like this? Is there any possible DIY fix for this? Even if it's a 50/50 chance of success I might be willing to try it. If I screw up, it can still be fixed or just replaced.

They are now your track wheels. Get some Toyo R888s.
