any way to charge key outside of ignition?

The dealers have "readers" that they pop the E46 key into to get the mileage, etc. but are there any devices I might be able to use, to pop they key into to keep it charged during long periods of non-use? I have two keys and drive my car 1-2K miles a year (parked 5-6 months at a time). I think my remote range/strength is compromised as a result. Yes I searched but didn't find anything so I'm not optimistic, but wondering if there was any such device (possibly the dealer key reader or similar toy) that could be had strictly for keeping an E46 key charged, and no other hacking/questionable (i.e alter the mileage) purposes?

I wonder if I could find an ignition cylinder and wire it to a 12-volt inverter, plugged into the wall. If only I was handy enough to attempt that without knowing a) will my keys fit in any old ignition cylinder, b) will I accidentally burn my house down in the process.

longshot, thanks anyway...

Then why did you respond -_-

To the OP: Our cars have a low key remote range, even while fully that may not be your problem.
