I did go to college I have a Criminal Justice Degree but starting pay for a state trooper in PA is like $45,000....doesn't cut it in this world.

yes it is a good paying job but its also a very hard job. People think we just drive around and give people boxes. Its one of the most physical jobs in our area. We start at 8:30 AM and don't get back to the building until 7:00 PM so by the time I get home its almost 8:00. We get an hour for lunch that's not paid, but we work non stop until sometimes 5:30 or 6 until we get lunch. Im in a different town everyday, in a different truck, on a different route. I dont have my own because im one of the youngest ones. I know 6 different routes...plus i dont know if im working until 7:30 AM everyday I have to call in and see if they need me. So it kinda sucks ya cant plan anything.

I wouldnt complain about the hours at UPS if I were you. I work at a major consulting company and I am lucky if I get here at 7 and am out by 8. Most weeks I am looking at roughly 85 hours.

President of a small IT/Business consulting company. Quitting to move out to Cali soon (as soon as I can get a job).

Seems like a fairly high % of engineers here. Never would have thought that.

Not ridiculous. Those guys work hard. It is not just driving back and forth on the highway and throwing boxes out the window. As for the school comment, I make over $100 an hour because of school. We each take our own path and it is up to us to do the best with what we have chosen!

I am 37 y/o and senior manager at a major accounting firm. I am a CPA.

no but we have a Driving school that you have to go to and pass. Its actually pretty hard these days. They send you to Virginia I think and there's like a UPS truck simulator kinda like a flight simulator.....This is a new thing they didn't have that when i started. But if u screw up or fail any tests you get sent home that day....the class is like 8 days long. They wont send out someone they don't trust with the truck.....they care more about the truck then they do us drivers!!

thanks!! I'm glad someone knows what there talking about, I don't blame the people who don't know....I mean unless you've seen us work on a day to day basis or know someone who works for us I guess you really wouldn't know

I just wish we were treated better, I heard on the radio once that UPS employees are the worst treated in the country and I'd believe it.

You MAKE $100 per hour or your CHARGE $100 per hour?

Big difference.

I graduated in 2007 with an HVAC engineering degree. I worked for a family owned HVAC company for a year doing system design, load calculations, and outside sales. After that I worked for a global refrigeration parts company called Danfoss as an application engineer in thier refrigeration department. I now work for a HVAC distributor as an inside/outside salesman.
