Hi guys,
My 2004 e46 330ci vert (facelift) has had no sound for couple months. HK system (HK sub taken out with aftermarket amp running aftermarket sub in boot) rest of the HK speakers in the car are with the factory setup. Finally taken into audio shop.. they have tested everything and the conclusion is.. speakers working, headunit working, main amp in boot working, HK amp under back seat not responding out of that. HK AMP (E46/C) 65 12-8 380 068 05 (65128380068) http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...71&hg=65&fg=25 They took the unit out and asked me to test it and maybe source one to take back in the next couple days to plug in. My question is, what are my options here? 1. how can i test this amp to make sure it is not working? take it to bmw? 2. Buy 2nd hand working amp to put in? (if that is the problem) 3. Standard loom which plugs into the HK, can this be bypassed with aftermarket amp? 4. Standard loom to totally bypass HK amp (connect wires together) to test and see if sound comes out? Is this possible? I am just in a bit of a lingo here and would like some advice so i can report back to the audio shop tomorrow. Thank you. |

I would double check the wiring before replacing the amp. most aftermarket installs hack the wiring up pretty bad in an attempt to bypass the amp. If you need a replacement HK amp, look in eBay or a junkyard.

thanks for the input..
all the wiring has been checked and tested.. it only leaves to query the working condition of the HK amp which all the speakers go through for crossover reasons etc. I read a post @ http://bimmer.roadfly.com/bmw/forums...786337&page=10 which really helped in clarifying couple things... it looks like a bit of a job putting an aftermarket amp in the HK's place which forgives my tuning from my screen. Also if one choses to put an aftermarket amp in the place of the HK, then why not change the speakers too? I was happy with the HK amp and the way my aftermarket amp and sub were working, but im finding it difficult to find a second hand HK amp quick. |
