Has a gun ever saved your life?

I'm thinking of getting a gun, but my question to justify owning one is do I need it?

So, whether it was a gun you owned or a buddy with his gun, has a potentially life threatening situation been averted as a result of the presence of a gun?

I know I can get some good feedback here ... and let's keep this related to the question presented and not in a debate on god knows what

the realistic people who buy/own guns hope they never use them outside the range.

The unfortunate (few) who do use them are generally not happy they had to and probably don't want to relive the experience on the internet for you.

I saw an episode of Macguyver once where a gun saved his life. He used the spring, the cylinder, some powder from the bullets, a piece of wood and a rubber band to fashion a makeshift time-delay diversionary explosive device, escaping from the bad guys and saving the day. So there you go, you never know when a gun might come in handy.

Macguyver rocks.

99% of the people that have needed to use a gun to save themselves or others will let you know they wish the situation had never come up. Even when justified (civilian or military), it's not a great feeling to know you ended a life, no matter the reason.

I didn't say how many people have you killed ... I'm just asking how many time a gun has ever prevented you from being killed

My family would NEVER allow a gun in the house-

I don't think you should own one, unless you're professionally trained to use one, not any average joe

I guess main reason behind my dad going against owning one was because someone he knew who owned a jewelry business was getting robbed once, had about 10k cash on him, once the two dudes were walking out the door with the money, he reached for his gun right when the other guy saw him doing it and shot him to death. basically, he lost his life for some paper. where as the situation could have been handled much better if he didn't attempt to use his gun

I've thought about owning one since I do alot of traveling with cash.. but I don't see it helping me. I'd much rather get robbed for some paper than killing someone/getting killed. there are so many gun laws out there you should be aware of, or else you can get yourself in some major trouble.

Even though I'm pro 2nd amendment, owning a gun isn't for everyone. If you feel you're ready to own one, and are willing to spend the money to get proper training on gun handling & safety....do it. If not, you shouldn't be owning a firearm.

That said, I've never had to use a firearm to defend myself, but I damn well wanna know how to do it if it comes to it.

Wouldn't you rather own one and never have to use it than wish you had a gun when you needed it? That's worth the few hundred bucks right there, of course that's only if you carry with you and keep it within reach at all times, does you no good if it's in the closet. Are you looking for a daily carry weapon or home defense only?
