Shadowline trim help

I wanted to dechrome my trim on my coupe but can't find the right info. I want to paint it by using 400 grit, primer and gloss paint. The question is will it last or am I better off with a vinyl kit? Seen people put electrical tape too but that defeats the purpose of a bmw.

I installed vinyl on my old car and you can only tell up close. Cheaper and easier IMO to go with Vinyl. Here's a pic of my old car.

Got mine off Ebay for $20. Well worth it. It took me about 2 hours to do the whole car (both sides). I had plenty left over too.

Lots of work to take trim off and paint and mask and remove adhesives, just doing it now and wish I just bought vinyl tape. Would have been done by now and cost a lot less.
