Which dealership?
Try another, some of them are bad.

You should have been like "Listen you...I have in my hand a letter of recall that I am required by law to have my car inspected by your dealership, if you don't know anything about it then get me someone that does."

Don't ever let people tell you "No" when you know you are right.

And what do you say when the dealer says that this letter is a generic form sent to all E46 owners and that they are reqiured to do a VIN number check for this recall, as instructed by BMW NA?

At that point you print out the official class action agreement, and the FAQ and the letter from lawyers (they can send you an email explaining) and shove it all under their noses. Nowhere in any of those documents can you find any need for a VIN check.

or try a different dealer.

Just drive over there. They'll end up doing it anyways. The sh*tty part is not having a rental. At least my dealer wouldnt provide one cos the repair was being made at a body shop or something like that.

Hey I have experienced a good service and also read similar feedback from others on this thread. I believe that if you have a good history with the dealership they would do this for you.

This is just my observation.

The cost for this job is extensive and time consuming so BMWNA is bearing some cost here.

Also, I mentioned this before but I was advised by the body shop that my dealer recommended that the replacement sub-frame was the same as the one which I had on my 3/01 build e46. I mentioned the Turner Motorsport reinforcement kit and the body shop was able to install it while right after the subframe for minimal install cost since the rear end was completely disassembled.

All the best!

Regards,
Loay

it's 10/8/10 (one yr from the date the lawsuit became EFFECTIVE, not one year from the date it was approved)

^ awesome!

My life was just a little too crazy at the end of the summer, I looked myself at work one day and didn't find anything. I'll try to get it set up to get it in for a "professional" opinion...

Do they have to drop the rear subframe or anything to check?

I just called about it and they said it only takes 45 minutes, so theres no way they do that. it must just be a visual inspection on a lift

Just scheduled my appointment for Friday.

Though my car has been out of warranty for quite some time and out of extended warranty/maintenance for a while as well, they still offered a loaner car for the day...

I didn't even buy my car from them, lol.

Thanks Roadshow BMW!

EDIT: Are we sure the deadline is now Oct 8th? Please see below...

The deadline for free sub-frame inspections is September 9, 2010, for vehicles no longer under warranty. Can you forward me that e-mail Washburn? Imola.ZHP@gmail.com I'd love to print it and take it with me...

Just got mine done - Everything OK.
Valley BMW, Fayetteville, NC. Took kinda long as one of their techs had called in sick. other than that good experience. Didn't ask for any paperwork, no questions. They washed and vacuumed the car, too.
Got a lot of compliments on my car by service dept and a customer They were impressed that it only had 14k miles.

Met a guy from the area with a gray 2004 ZHP sedan, and had a nice chat, and informed him about the SF inspection. He will also get it done today.

The service dept. however, said they will NOT install the Aux jack anywhere other than glove box. That's a real bummer - I am gonna have to see if an indy shop can do it or find someone locally to help me with it.

Marcus: I will send the email in a few hrs.
edit: email sent

A fellow whose car we've been looking at took his car into BMW yesterday. A bit of separation was found in the underbody/floorpan/subframe area... and they're going to weld it up. Great info. in this forum, needless to say. Thanks a bunch for getting out the word on the end date for these repairs. This extra month is going to help many enthusiasts to get their rides more shipshape!
