Just scheduled my car to have this checked out....but they cant fit me in at the local dealer for another 3 weeks. Stealership is a PITA.

hey got my letter today as well

to the extraordinary efforts of every last squeaky wheel that would not let this problem rest.

I have a 2002 330i, i do have some play in the driveline but never got underneath the car in that area to do a check

Is there any good DIY for checking the subframe yourself? I wont bother with an appt if its not necessary.

Any good input on "checking" a car for the problem (or the beginning OF a problem), would be greatly appreciated for all, im sure.

Got my letter last night. I havent had time to read through it yet but I checked out the web site a little. If the dealsership is offering a free inspection of the subframe we might as well let them check it. Plus I am sure I could find something to look at at the dealership while they are checking it out. The website does have a toll free number for any questions. 866-215-8458 for those of you who don't have the time to read all of the paperwork. Or if you are just lazy and don't understand all this legal crap like me. haha

Hey All, just got my letter today but need someone to clarify something for me. The letter seems to state that the lawsuit has not been settled yet. Is that still current? Some posts above mention appointments to get their cars checked out, but if the settlement has not been reached, why get it checked now?

So lets say you have some Eibach Pro Springs installed along with some wheels, how does that affect this? Will this exclude you from the suit? Or is it still possible for them to include you?

Ok I just called the number provided and they said any modifications to the suspension (which partially makes sense) or different size wheels excludes you from the settlement.

That sucks that any mods will exclude your car from the settlement. I was just looking over the website and there is a pretty good FAQ section. http://www.e46subframeclassactionset...f/bmwn1faq.pdf

I have stock suspension and stock wheels, so I am fine there, but I have UUC SSK. I hope that doesn't disqualify me. Thoughts?

Brought Car Into Dealership

Brought my sons 2000 BMW 328ci into our local dealership for the inspection today. They found a crack - took pics, etc. And told us to find an auto body shop to fix it and find out about a rent a car because it's about a week long job. Pretty pissed off that they would just say to go to any auto body shop? But anyway called another BMW dealership about an hour away and they took a look at it too - couldn't find anything! They called the other dealership and they told them where to look - sure enough found the crack. They say it's a very small crack?? Sending us somewhere else for the repair? I'll keep you all posted as to the outcome! The 2nd dealer did say that BMW had been buying some of the vehicles back because they were so bad?? Kind of a huge hassle - but we'll see what happens! Good luck all!

as others have said .. no one should be doing anything yet. The "settlement" is only proposed, it has not been accepted. It could certainly NOT happen.

Wait until they say "ok, settlement is approved. We will reimburse anyone that had it fixed, or fix it for free".

Right now they are NOT saying that. It has only been "suggested" by the CA court that we (and anyone else that is a part of the settlement group) would be interested in that settlement.

If not approved, you will be stuck paying for these dealer visits by yourself......

easyIsle - I'm going to have to disagree! We called the local BMW dealer - they knew all about it - told us to bring it in for inspection (FREE) and was told that the repairs were to be paid for by BMW and this wasn't their first find! They told us they've done dozens of inspections already and that the repairs were extensive and some so severe BMW was buying back the vehicles!

DIY Sub-Frame Inspection

I was under my car, a 2000 323i 130,000mi, taking a look at the mounting points for the rear sub-frame and didn't see any cracks or anything that might be suspicious. However, the bushings cover the immediate area around the mounting point so if it is fatigued and/or cracked around it, they wouldn't be readily visible. Should I have an assistant shift between drive and reverse and watch for any excessive movement in the bushing? Anyone have any advise how to get a better look? Any tips/advise?

Anyone concidering selling their E46 after learning about this and not going with BMW again?
