Need help with Installation of Sony Radio

I just bought a Sony CDX-GT130 and I got the wires connected how i think they should be connected. I get radio but cannot play cd's or read aux input.... the unit seems to be reading the cd's but i get no audio. Anybody familiar with sony units know what the issue can be?

Don't take the wiring so literally. Very few BMWs actually have a power (extension/retracting) antennas. On most Aftermarket head units these days, the power antenna is for radio use and the remote on is for the amps. BMWs use only the remote on - not the power antenna remote. Where it has power antenna on the BMW harness adapter, use the amp remote on from the HU instead.

True the industry should label things more correctly but that is a losing battle. Cost will always win. This issue should be a sticky at the top of this forum.

Do you have this? In your case use the blue/white wire for the white wire on the E46.

I have the 12v ant out (white wire, pin 16) from my bmw connected to the Ant rem wire of the radio..... this is the only way i get radio stations to play. My issue is that when i put a cd in or plug in my ipod to aux in, there is no audio, however it reads it because the time of the track or song counts down. I did get the cd to work in the past by connecting the yellow wire from radio to the 12v direct (constant red/green wire) and the 12v acc (switched purple/white wire) but i believe that this fried 2 radio fuses (7 and 41).

Let me try another way.

The amp is not ON in CD or AUX mode. There is no antenna remote in a BMW unless you see an antenna rising up or down when you turn on the radio. The antenna remote out on aftermarket radios these days only work when the "radio" is used. Since BMW in the US usually use an amp, you need to use the rem on - not the ant rem. The white wire is a rem on for the amp. The labels on the harness adapters are not labeled correctly.

Id still say it may be defective, it powers on and plays radio, well you only have 3 connections power,ground, switched. if these were wired wrong, radio wouldnt play either as you would have no power. Since you have power, radio plays, cd's appear to read but not play i would say its defective or you burnt it out when you hooked it up incorrectly.

this too, if you in fact have it hooked up properly then its fried. power attenna shouldnt be used for anything, sony wire labeled remote goes to remote wire(white) in bmw harness as jay said.

If your car is from the US, it likely has an amp. If the remote on turns off when you switch to CD or AUX then this turns the amp off.

Use the amp rem on.

Ok - Im sorry. This little subject got me a little toasted. I'll let you try this and hope you get it working.

Radios are very simple to hook up, that said if you have no idea what you are doing take it to a shop and pay the $30 to have it hooked up before you do some serious damage.

If you are using the harness adapter then the blue wire on the harness adapter has to be connected to the blue/white wire on the head unit harness.

the blue/white wire and the blue wire on the harness need to be spliced together to the white wire. That deck has two remotes, the blue is the antenna remote, and the blue/white is the amp remote. When you are on FM, the Antenna remote wire turns on the amp/power antenna (white wire) which is giving you sound. When you are on Aux or CD, there is no Ant Remote signal going to the amp/power antenna which is causing no sound.

So try splicing the blue/white and blue to the white wire.
