My Ride: comes with blow
Squeeky clutch

Well, as the title says I started noticing that my clutch is squeeking everytime I depress or engage it. In the car I normally don't hear it while the engine is running (also when standing still) so it's not that loud. At first I thought it might be the pedal but when I roll down the windows the noise is more easily audible, so it appears to be coming from the outside rather than inside?

What do you guys think is wrong, and how should I fix it?

Squeaky return spring. Try to spray some penetrating oil

Tried lubing the spring, but that wasn't it.

Can a slave cilinder actually squeak? And what about the clutch arm bushings, wasn't that a common issue on the E36?

Yeah i have this exact same problem. But i am reading three different solutions. so is it the return spring, master or slave cylinder, or an entire new clutch kit?

Had my car on front ramps to bleed the clutch. The clutch pedal squeaked like crazy. I seriously thought I messed up or broken something. When the car was back on level ground, the squeak continued a few times and then disappeared. I think the squeak has something to do with certain fluid, as the inclination of the car can affect it. If it happens on level ground then, I suspect it's the result of air bubble occupying space where fluid is required. I can't really say what fluid is the culprit.

There is probably nothing wrong with your clutch or release bearing. You need to find out exactly where the noise is coming from.

If it is from inside the car it is probably your clutch lever bushings. You can get these either at the dealer or from UUC.

If it is coming from under the car there are two possibilities.

#1 You will have to pull out your slave cylinder and inspect the end of the shaft that pushes on the clutch arm. It has a plastic coating on the end of it. Over time it will wear through this coating and you will have metal to metal contact that will make a squeaking noise every time you push on the clutch. To fix it you can just put some bearing grease on the end of the shaft and it will be nice and quiet again.

#2 If it's not your slave cylinder then it is probably the release bearing sliding on the shaft that it rides on. (see attached picture) It is lubricated at the factory but over time it will dry out and start making a squeaking noise as it moves over the shaft. The only way to relube it is to drop the tranny. If that is the case then you better relube the splines on the shaft while you are there because they are probably getting dry as well.

To be honest I never got it fixed. After I put it a clutch stop it barely gets to the point where it starts squeaking. It's still there, I know, but it stopped bothering me.

I might actually try taking out the slave cilinder to see if that shaft is worn, but I wouldn't go through the trouble of dropping the tranny though.

Thanks for the ideas!

I have the same problem....replaced the slave clutch and still squeeks. Even though it only took 30 mins to change and $85 (i think) it's not worth it. My sound is coming from inside the tranny - probably were Elite53 points out.
