Very good thread. Nice to see the SMGs going strong.
I'd change that fluid, I wouldn't flush it, just change it. Treat it like a automatic, drain and fill. Autoboxes and the like don't tend to respond well to flushes. Yes I know the smg is not an auto, I'm just saying.

Oh, and the transmission temp has to be a certain temp. Dealership will tell you its a lifetime fill, but cmon now, do you run your oil for 15k miles? So why not change the fluid in the tranny. I don't think one change will hurt it, but u won't get them to do it under warranty, some may do it if u pay all costs tho.

I get what your saying..but..if i do change the fluid, and my tranny f u c k s up, i gonna wanna shoot myself for messing with it. so i think i leave it. Or ill wait and see if someone else does it and see how it turns out.

its not really that expensive. ive done it myself on my SMG at 60k miles. i have 74,000 miles on my 04 now and nothing has gone wrong with it yet. as for the lifetime fluid.. well i dont buy it. although it doesnt get burned up bad in the tranny due to no combustion going on it still does get used and i would change it still every so often. u change the SMG the same way u do the MANUAL. here is the DIY i followed.
