I should have stated that purchasing is more financially advantageous in the long run. Your most financially responsible move is to buy it and keep it a long time. Dumping money out the door every month for a car payment is a waste.

It always make sense to buy and keep cars for a while rather then trade them in after a couple of years or worse yet, lease.

My '03 325CiC was $52K sticker (Sport Package, Premium Package and Cold Weather Package). After a year (2004) and 12,000 miles it was sold as CPO for $40K. I bought it last year (10/2008) with 56,000 miles for $17K and remaining of its CPO warranty.

So, the first year this car was resold $12,000 cheaper then its retail, which means it was purchased from its original owner for about $20K less then he originally paid for it.

First year depriciation: $20K

Next 4 years: $23K or $5,750/year.

Current KBB value (11 months and 14,000 miles later): $15,675 (Good Condition FS BO) or $1325 in 11 months.

Yeah...

when you purchase a car, and then sell it your are not suppost to count in the taxes and license fees(im in car business)

for example...

325i dude..

540 a month with tax x 24 months comes out to 13000

now im sure your 42 price is out the door...for a 325i

so 38,000

if you didnt trade it in and have sold it yourself...

instead of 22 you would get 25...

Now see how they are equal...

If you keep it 3 years, a buy would be better in ur situation..

It comes down to just your taste. It will always be a lease vs buy debate, lol. I prefer to buy used with a warranty, preferably CPO. Most BMW's look good for years because we are not as mainstream in some areas as trucks, trailers and boats. Just my .002.
