Just found this under the seat of my R53 mini - same connector. note the part number 61 13 1 378 114

BMW of South Atlanta lists the part as available for less than $2.. no idea how I missed it earlier.

It almosts fits - all you need to do is shave a corner off the right side of the picture. So save yourself $25+ and get your xacto knife out.

enjoy

What size wires is everyone using?

My plans are to remove the front cig lighter in the ashtray and make a wiring harness from those spades back to the factory plugs for the new 12v sockets. I want everything to be wired like it would from the factory AND be totally reversible (just by unplugging my harness and re installing the old front cig lighter socket). The cig lighter circuit is on a 30a fuse so it looks like we should use 10 gauge for the + & - ? The acc/light looks like its about 16-18 gauge? I bought 6 of the part number 61131376202 inserts and after getting home it looks like those may only be good for the acc/light portion of the plug. The 61131376202 is 0,5-1,0MM˛ which is about 20-16 gauge. The larger option for the + & - looks to be part number 61131376206 (2,5-4,0MM˛) which is only about 14-12 gauge. I wonder if its close enough to fit the 10 gauge wire in the 61131376206 plugs...

edit: it looks like the factory wiring is 12 gauge not 10 just eying it?

How to physically install?

Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if this part isn't really just designed for the M3/coupe models. I bought the part for $90, and now I have no way of installing it. I thought for a moment, that the rear console might have a removable panel just under the roll-top storage compartment that faces the rear seats.

That rear bit is just an outline, not a removable piece, so there really isn't any room to slot in the plastic bracket. Also, is anyone concerned that someone sliding along the back seat might kick this bracket/assembly off of the center console?

I'm happy to try to extend the wiring, but I'm pretty nervous about how to physically attach the thing to my car, now that I've bought it.

Wow, looks like your diligence in tracking down a solution is paying off.
How did you end up installing yours. Straight off the front lighter or did you go with a switched wire

Does anyone have pictures of this at a different angle? Or any pictures of how it attaches to the center console?

First off, the dual plug accessory won't work in a convertible (which I have), so it wasn't an option. Secondly who needs more lighter outlets! I rarely have three people lighting their cigarette's simultaneously in my car (though if they legalize in CA, who knows?).

If you want to plug in devices, you don't want lighters, you want high-amp USB. Normal cigarette USB adaptors are 1A, which is adequate for slow charging an iPhone and won't work with an iPad. You want 2.1A for an iPad.

I wanted dual USB, so I went with this guy, a hard-wire dual USB with max 2.1A output. I would have preferred 3A total (about the max you can do on a 10A 12V lighter circuit converted to 5V):

I drilled a hole in the change tray (cheapest trim to replace if I didn't like it!), removed the rectangular trim from the adaptor, and wired to the brown/purple-white(IIRC) below the console. Works brilliantly and was stupid-easy. Photos attached (I am not a good photographer...)
