Thumbs Up New engine

Hi all,
took my 04 M3 in to the dealer over a week ago as the Exhaust emission light had lit up on the dash. They replaced a hose and also noticed there was a loss of compression in cylinders 5 and 6 and that the head gasket had also been damaged! I have only done 3,000 miles since I bought the car. Anyway the engineer said they will be fitting a brand new engine! I didn't argue with that and am very happy with the outcome.

Anyone ever had a brand new engine fitted under warranty and also was this related to the exhaust emission light?
Thanks.

Congrats on the new engine. The only emissions issues that i could see that would warrant a new engine would be related to valves/vanos issues. I'm no service advisor though.

dang your so lucky how many miles did you have on your old engine when you bought the car?
i still have warranty on my 2003 m3 until 100k miles bought it with 80k miles on it, no problems hope i can either get the smg clutch replaced or the whole engine before my warranty runs out. But so far the car just won't show any signs of breaking down no matter how hard i push it, seriously and i take it hard 2nd gear all the way to 60 and third in the hundreds.

The dealer uses genuine BMW remanufctured engines, they even have a brochure that explains the use of this. If I could get a new engine on BMWNA's dime, that would be a deal! Congrats!

hey guys, thanks for the replys.
2003 bmw m3 - the car had 60,000 miles when I bought it and I only managed to do about 3,000 miles The car was under warranty and they said it would be cheaper to replace the whole engine rather than replacing parts and carrying out any repairs, which makes sense I guess.
ABCD - I have not got the car back yet, should be ready Wednesday/Thursday this week. I don't know what to expect or how it will feel but I am looking forward to it!

What's there to see? It will look the same from the outside (engine compartment) as it did before and they certainly wont touch the odometer.

tht's right, they will not be adjusting the odometer. The engine itself will have 0 miles but the car as a whole will have still covered 63,000 miles. A great result still!

guys,
I picked up my car with the new engine fitted yesterday and wow what a difference! I have had a few M3s so I know the difference between one that is running well and one that is not doing too good.
I have to run the engine in so obviously can't use full throttle or do any hard driving but there is a noticable difference in low down torque and it makes the car feel almost like new!
The new engine cost the dealership just over 10,000 Not sure what that eqautes to in US $.
