e46 330Cic - SKI BAG or ROOF Rack?

Hey there -

As we approach the winter Ski season I am wondering should I get a roof rack or have installed the ski bag cassette I've been holding on to? I need something to carry my skis on/in. The roof rack would be good for the surf board, but I'm afraid it will scratch up the roof, which I don't want to do. I like the thought of the ski bag, but hear it rattles.

Should I install the ski bag or get a roof rack? Also if I get a roof rack, which one? THULE or Yakima? Bmw's is proprietary.

Thanks!

Tyler

roof rack for sure. thule makes one specifically for the e46 and it is awesome and you can get any attachment that you could want. i got mine for a pretty good deal at backcounty.com too. it doesn't touch the paint at all either, there is special screw holes on your roof under the trim for a rack. it will look kick ass too with a faring

Ski bag is useless. I couldn't fit a single snowboard in it, I can't imagine it being very useful for skis either.
The roof rack is made so you don't scratch your roof... Go for the Thule system, this way you can pick up any Thule accessory from any car, you don't have to stick with the overpriced BMW stuff...
They make noise on the highway, but give you a lot more flexibility...

Pends on how you go skiing. If you go to the slopes solo or with one other skier and each only has one pair of skis, I say ski bag. That's how I roll to the mountain. I'm done car is back to normal and looks clean and aerodynamic. Roof racks and boxes are alright if you need the extra space but I don't see sporting them all winter if I don't have to.

If we go for a longer trip we take my wifes Outback. More cargo capacity and racks and box look like they belong there.

i use a roof rack, useful for carrying stuff and let's me carry extra gear in the trunk. Let's be honest, our cars don't have lots of storage room,

Not a big fan of how the car looks with the rack, i'll take it off if i'm not using it for a while, takes less than 5 minutes to take on/off
