Mounting 6.5 woofers in deck and doors

So i managed to blow out all 4 woofers being a teenager and listening to my music too loud. So i decided to replace them. unfortunatly the pics of the day got destroyed so i wont post a full write up but i will post this handy hint.


Those little angled black brackets that come with speakers are damn handy for mounting 6.5 in the BMW. The actual speaker size in the BMW is a little smaller but the Blaupunkts i purchased are 158mm so they are a perfect match. GTx series sound very good. anyway back to the mounting.

if you take those black things bend them straight, use some needle nose to open the screw hole a bit wider, use some 6/32 x 1/2" bolts and nuts, you can use them to pressure mount the speakers both in the front and the back. This is a cheap (everything except the bolts come with the speakers) and efficient (i even did it in the doors with locking washers, so they wont come lose from closing the door).

Way easier then cutting a adapter or buying one, if they even sell one.

just a heads up to those guys who want a solid job, but are a bit low on cash.

question...were u able to still use your normal mesh grilles? or did you just leave them off?

also...is there any reason you got the 6.5" speaker versus a 5.25" like the stock ones?

the stock ones are 6.25" if i remeber correctly. the 6.5fit perfectly. ..... ya i mounted that insulator ring and the stock grill, i especially like these cause theymount perfectly in the doors with no modiffication. just use the same method for attachemne.

im running 6.5s, used a wooden ring spacer, to hold the speaker, but said ring is glued and screwed to the stock opening. works great.

thats probably the right way to do it... but if a pinch my method works. decided to go and take some pics to show you guys

^ does it clear your window glass when lowered, in the back.
my 6.5s are deep, i think my window actually rests on the back of the speaker when lowered.

the nice thing about the blaukpunkt GTx series is that they are really shallow. these GTx650s were actually about 1/2cm "shorter" then teh stock speakers great for whe i did the door.s
