Crank Sensor CEL, Limp Mode, Car Dies / Struggles to Start

*UPDATE* I replaced the Autozone sensor with an OEM sensor from the dealer and the car has been driving great all week, no limp mode or CEL....

Hoping someone can help... I just brought my 2001 330Ci to a racetrack and it drove great until about 5 or mins into each session it went into limp mode. I got a crank sensor CEL and misfire CEL's. I replaced the sensor and eventually the misfire codes went away only. Car kept going into limp mode after 5 mins of beating it on track. A couple times the car struggled to start or wouldn't start without a jump. On the drive home, the car kept dying (engine off) when I was nearing a stop, until it went into limp mode again. A day later, it drives fine again.

I replaced the battery and crank sensor and tested the alternator. Could it be a bad starter or malfunctioning alternator? However this all started from driving aggressively on the racetrack with a lot of heat... which makes me wonder if this is actually a sensor/mechanic issue - or just from heat or a computer hiccup?

Thanks!

There might be more than one problem.
If it started with a jump, the alternator may be weak.

Did you buy OEM sensor? It's the only one you can trust when it comes to sensors.

Did you clear the code and has it come back?

I don't think it happened because of the racing, there was already a problem.

Yes I cleared the code and just the Crank Sensor code came back. I installed a Duralast sensor from Autozone, which looked identical. I tested the Alternator at Autozone and they said it's good. I did not see any vacuum leaks. I need to replace my oil level sensor too if that makes any difference..

Duralast is questionable.
Confirm battery voltage the the CPS with the ignition on and ground.
You can also check continuity of the third - signal wire to the DME.

Is the sensor seated all the way?
