Question

I have not read through the whole thread, but is there a pro and con list comparing the two? Of for that matter is there a side by side comparison chart that includes cost, features, etc like you can look up on some sites?

You know, even if we did up a chart I think many items would still be open to debate. Also, I have learned that if I add my own opinions without concrete proof, the eas guy is all over me spreading lies.

I just did a skim of most of the thread. I would recommend reading posts #127 (http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...5#post11013825) through #131'ish. Also I know it's quite long but I think watching my youtube videos (see post # 1 - http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=701077) or delmarcos (http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=739353) are worth the time investment if you are really undecided which interface to purchase.

Is this a mistake? If you look at the spec at end of http://www.audiosavings.com/products.../PA12-BMW.aspx
it says "Not compatible with harman Kardon Systems". I have the HK system, does this mean I need the DSP model?

Many thanks to Steve.325i and Delmarco for their informative posts.

I have installed the USASpec PA12 in my car (2005, HK) and it works perfect with an old ipod nano. Great built quality, functionality and most of all, GREAT SOUND QUALITY (i am pretty picky about good sound quality) !!! I did a simple install only, (see my post in mobile electronics section), and i am very happy.

Reading about what a nightmare DICE is, i am very glad I went with the Spec.
If USASpec did half the advertising that DICE does, i am sure this product will sell a LOT more. I think we should all make others aware of the huge pluses associated with the USASpec and the flaws associated with the DICE.
Most people are probably not picky about sound quality, which is sad - to me that should be #1 priority. The USASpec meets that requirement, and more.

Highly recommended.

I AGREE !!!

But I have gotten in trouble on a couple occasion when making comments on some of the dice threads.

The default comment from their position is that since there are so many more people using the dice, that there will simply be more issues reported.

I bought mine from audiosavings.com
I don't know if this is the best place or not, but I didn't have any issues with them.

My PA12 never has worked for more than a week without freezing up, had it for about a year.

That certainly doesn't sound like the norm for the USA-SPEC. Are you sure there isn't anything wrong with the iPod? I know the one I use for mine is really old and needs to be reset/restored occasionally. I put up with it, since I really don't want to leave my good iPod in the car here where it could easily get to 120+ degrees in the trunk. It did the same thing with the DICE I had, but instead of me having to reset it once every few months it was once every few days. I could also have something to do with the iPod going to a deep sleep, are you using alarms to keep it from going into deep sleep?

FWIW, I installed a Dice unit today. No big problems. Everything works. BUT, the sound quality isn't that great. I hear lots of pops and tics. It makes my iPhone songs (not compressed) sound like a really compressed mp3. I have a USA SPEC installed in my wife's VW and it sounds much better than the Dice. Back goes the Dice... I guess I'm ordering the USA Spec. I'll probably get it from Crutchfield. Wish Amazon.com sold it... gotta love Amazon Prime!
