OS Giken LSD in a ZHP with 3.07

OS Giken's app chart shows their diff available for AT 330i's so I sent in a question inquiring if it would fit in MT cars first of all, but more specifically in my ZHP with its 3.07 final drive. Their response:

Quote:
Regarding our OS Super Lock LSD for the E46 BMW 330i with Manual Transmission, it is compatible with units equipped with the 3.46 and 3.38
final gears. It is not compatible with 2.93 final gears, due to the different gear height/thickness and its relation to where it "sits" on the
differential case.

Regarding your 3.07 final gear, we have not performed a test fitment for that final gear ratio.

If the differential equipped with the 3.07 final gear is compatible with either 3.46 or 3.38 final gear ratios, then you should be able to successfully install our LSD into your application.
Any experts on here know if, based on this response from OS Giken, their LSD can be installed in my ZHP with its 3.07 final drive?

You should be able to install it just fine, but why not go 3.46? You've got a 6 speed, and a 3.46 would put you in your power band every time you go to downshift, its well worth it.

I figure the 3.07 will be nice with the extra power of a SC... .someday

I guess what would answer this question is if someone can tell me if its possible to fit a 3.46 final drive onto the same open diff that is in the zhp

Very interested in this. Also wondering where the cheapest place is to get this? Not to hijack but I'm a complete noob, as you can see from my number of posts. Would I need to get the LSD from OS Giken, and then the 3.46 gears from a junk yard, or would they come as a complete diff? Thanks for your help.

The LSD should have the final drive ratio installed when you buy it. And I thought all those final drive ratios were interchangable??

I'm still a noob but I've only heard of folks swapping the entire diff pumpkin to get the 3.46, then the drop in a LSD into that. Not sure if the clearances inside the pumpkin are different....

Some will sell you just the LSD mechanism, some will sell a complete final drive assembly. I haven't seen anyone advertising the OSG as a complete final drive (doesn't mean it's not available, I just haven't seen it) so you will likely have to provide the final drive and then have the LSD built in place of the open diff. I purchased a complete final drive assmebly with a 3.23 gear set and LSD through Koala Motorsport. All I had to do was swap pumpkins

Looks like Turner is selling the OS Giken unit but only for 3.46, not the 3.07. Maybe that means its not compatible with the 3.07 gear set....?

I can confirm it is not compatible with a 3.07 as I have tried to bolt it in (the ring gear is too thick). I am pretty sure it will only work with a 3.23 and upwards.

Yep, turner sells them now

Minimum $2500? so $400 minimum for the install? Got to be a way to do that cheaper.

Call Diffsonline. It'll work for the 3.07, but not the 2.93. $3k.

Send a message via AIM to mvrk10256
for 3K just get an e30 with a factory LSD (4.10 gears) and keep the e46 stock.

Interested to see if this is true, it no way fits straight in though, the thicker ring gear pushes the whole LSD to one side. Please let us know!

Well last winter I did call diffsonline, and that's the quote I got to put an OS Giken LSD in a 3.07 ZHP diff.

I ended up having Performance Gearing rebuild my existing 2.93 LSD, but Diffsonline *said* they could do it.

Performance Gearing can do an LSD in a 3.07 for about $2k, the main difference being that the OS Giken will never require a rebuild, whereas most other clutch type diffs will eventually wear out.

Wherever you get your LSD, I'd recommend talking with your builder about your expected use. The LSD can be tuned differently for tighter or bigger corners, and won't necessarily work as well if it's not tuned for your expected use. What works well on a road course with a high-HP car doesn't necessarily work as well for autocrossing.
