Remote Key Not Working..!

One of my Keys for my car stopped working several months ago, so I switched to the spare key and left this one to collect dust at home. I managed to open the key up, thinking I could replace the battery but its soldered on.

Assuming I can buy a battery and get an electrician to replace it, what are the next steps? Do I need to get the key coded by BMW or can I do that trick where you put the first key in, take it out and out the second key in etc..

I'm selling the car so want to get both keys working.

You can reprogram the key yourself in the car. When you are ready, grab all your keys, you'll have to do the same to each to ensure they are all coded the same. Then follow these steps:
  1. Put the key in the ignition and turn it to the on position three times.
  2. Hold down the unlock button for five seconds and then while holding it down push the lock button three times.
  3. The doors should lock themselves and then unlock. This is how you know the programming was successful.
  4. If this does not work, repeat step two by first removing the key from the ignition.
  5. Repeat steps two and three above for each spare key. You must begin the programming no more than a minute between keys.
