Stealthbox Q

Are there any other 8" subs that would work in the JL Stealthbox enclosures? Preferably some that are much stronger. I really like the Stealths cuz they don't take up much room in the trunk, are lightweight, and look stock with the grey carpet lining. What I don't like is the fact that they handle so little power. So I was looking for another sub that I could swap out the JL's with and still use the same enclosure. Anyone know?

You don't want to push much power to infinite baffle subs anyway. The JL's IB's are one of the better subs for that situation. I would stick with them, and just make sure you have good clean power. You'll blow up more subs using too little power and clipping than you will with too much clean power.

I think there's a direct relation between sub types (read: free-air, vs sealed) and the amount of power/efficiency of the sub.

The JL ib8's are great subs, and yes, they probably won't be able to handle a 1000x1 amp, but they will sound GREAT with a 250/1.

Are there any 8" subs besides the JL 8IB4 that can be used in an infinite baffle setup?

Well, I just did a quick search and found these:

http://www.kicker.com/ShowPage.cfm?f...&menu=MIDTWEET

Basically Kicker came out with its Resolution "high end midbass" driver that can be used as a free air sub - its also 8".

I haven't heard these, and while I think its great to have an alternative for 8" subs, I think this is more marketing than anything. The power handling is a peak 250 w/ a 125RMS - I think that might be a bit higher than the JLs.

Honestly, if you're looking to go w/ an infinite baffle solution using an 8" driver in our cars, I'd say just go w/ the stealths. Why reinvent the wheel?

Oh, and I know what you're probably thinking - can these subs be used in the stealth's enclosure? Who knows - although I know for a fact that JL won't sell JUST the enclosure. I tried when I upgraded from my e36. I still have my pair of stealths from that car, and both systems use the exact same pair of ib8s, just differently designed enclosures. I tried to get JL to sell me just the enclosure so that I could just swap out the subs. No go...

the enclosure stays the same nomatter what subs you use, BECAUSE, the are infinite baffle, so...........your trunk is the enclosure. the piece that holds the speaker is basically just that. but, why change them? a different IB 8" speaker, i will pretty much promise you, won't sound better than the JL setup...
