Go to the dealer and buy plate screws. They are like $2.

any store with a car accessories isle... go with Black Nylon to avoid rust issues.

For $2 how can you not go OE...and, of course, most license plate frames come with screws and personally, for that fully finished look, you need a frame...black or stainless. If you don't go OE, make sure the screws fit properly...

i found that the auto parts store does not carry the same thread pattern as the dealer. This also goes for the length. Go with OEM or get them from ECS.

go to hardware store and match it with whatever comes on the car. Its not a perfect fit so if it threads is good. I got some stainless hex bolts that look nice and would be impossible to steal.

Why not just go to a Home Depot or Lowes? You should be able to buy some stainless ones for under a dollar.

its an M5 .8..
i got some zinc plated machine screws today. but i am looking to get something different.
i saw security torx at advanced auto. but it was part of a kit. and would have cost me $30 to get a whole set.
the ones i had on before are too long, and scratch the trunk lid.. and the front ones were rusted.

where do they have the oem ones? can someone point me to them on getbmwparts.com since i live near tischer?

but home depot had no metric stainless steel ones.. none.. the only things that were the right thread were zinc plated steel..

My Ride: 2006 330ci convert.
I know this is an older question, but I found a solution to this today and thought I would share it. At Lowes I found stainless steel button cap 10-32 x 1/2 screws in the hardware section in the specialty drawers. They have an allen head and cost $2.49 for a 4-pack. They worked perfectly for my '06 330ci convertible rear license plate.

I have OE silver and black screws to match whichever plate frame I feel like using. The silver ones didn't last long and already have rust forming on them. And I live in SoCal. I'm currently using my black screws with my cars original rusnak plate frame.
