Hey guys,

I used to have the same problem with codes P1580 and P1542. Other symptoms were: poor low end performance, engine stalled.
In my case, I manged to repair my old MDK.
It appeared, that the butterfly had a play (a minor play as it seemed to me). The butterfly did not reach the FULL CLOSED position because of a spring, that forces the butterfly to fully close, got weak. So what did I do? I installed a plastic "wire cover" (dimensions DxdxL: 2x0.8x10 mm) on the end of the spring. Now the butterfly fully closes.
The symptoms did not come back, and since then I have made >1000 km. The engine has better response in low rpms.
After this "modification" I was very surprised: the vanos rattle has gone!!!
That is my lucky story. I hope it will be helpful for somebody.

Thanks Dephantn, ill buy a new throttle body and see how it turns out. The only issue is that i live one and a half hours away from the dealer so i'm trying to source a gt1 or equivalent so i can reset the adaptations, if i cant find one looks like ill have to get a car trailer.

I eventually used Seafoam brand throttle body cleaner and lubricant to clean the throttle body up again and so far good for 2k miles...

andddd the problem is back... EML+ASC (traction control) lights that are on. It also seems to come and go....maybe the electronic module on the throttle body is broken and the whole thing needs to be replaced....

my final conclusions...

There are only 3 things that could go wrong related to this problem: EML+ASC (traction control) lights are throttle body related issues.

1. Throttle flaps get stuck due to sticky residue which can be cleaned out.
2. Throttle position sensors are bad which is imbedded into the throttle body (mechanical cable set up).
3. Wire harness is not plugged into throttle body correctly or the wire harness itself is faulty.

If any of these issues occur it will send a signal to the computer which will put the car into limp mode.

it happened to me too. first time i stalled it (bad weather, tires were frozen to ground) Suddenly a limp bmr! idle fine, touch the gas and seemed as though the engine was misfiring. Read manual, says eml code is for engine timing out of sync and to "see your BMW specialist" no thanks, i like to save money. So, being the cheapo I am, I like to start every problem with a look a fuses. Pulled all fuses for engine control (27, 29 and 30 for my 328ci) fuses were ok, but somehow this reset the engine sync on the computer. VOILA! running great again! eml is gone. Try it. worked for me... saved me calling for a tow.
