Possible Missfire/Coil Issue --- Code 16 48???

Hello all,

My ride: 2003 M3 65k miles, new plugs at 55k NGK Iridium, self installed. All other service schedule performed at dealer.

I've been struggling with an rare and seemingly intermmitent very rough and idle, limp-mode. I have scanned several thread on the matter including the reported recall on the Bremi coils and would like to get your advise on the matter

1st incident: Issue started in June. Tank was 1/2 full and returned from a 100 mi trip home, washed car and got 1/2 tank of gas to havce car ready for next trip. Leave in garage in AM, get in car midday, car starts well but immediate rough idle, SES, and limp-mode. Read codes... could not find anything on tables... said to miself... "Bad gas/ethanol...". Limped to store, added 104+ octane booster, 200 yards after the octane booster engine calmed down, got home, cleared SES... all good...

2nd incident: Mid-July, same situation, out of the blue at engine start in the AM, cant recall any link to potentially "bad gas" tho. Fixed in same way as above.

3rd incident: Day before Yesterday, get gas, all ok rest of day... Engine start in the morning... SES, limp, rough idle, moderate engine shake. Fix in same way.

4th incident: Same tank of gas, Engine start in the morning... SES, limp, rough idle, moderate engine shake. Limp home get codes... Clear SES, let car stand for 5 min, start engine, no problem.

On other threads about the issue the codes clearly pointed to a cylinder missfire issue but here I looked in several locations but cannot find code 16/48.

Suspecting now one or more cylinder misfire due to bad or badly seating coil, but why does it go away when I clear the SES and let the car sit for 5 min? Until I clear the SES, the car runs very rough with light to mod shake on idle... is this shake limp mode related?
