12 6 050 Wiring diagram

I'm working on an S54 motor that broke a rocker, so I need to remove the vanos in order to get the camshaft out.

Has anyone built one of these tools (12 6 050) for themselves? This is the electrical tool that plugs into the vanos in conjunction with 11 7 130. It basically consisits of 2 rocker switches that apply voltage and ground to different pins on the vanos. The cheapest I've seen one for is about $220ish. I think I can build one for less than $20

Alternatively, is this tool necessary to get the vanos into "installation" position prior to its removal? Or, is there another way?

Thanks in advance.
