We can make the world a better place, or we can not (or we can do something in between). But as a christian, there is more to just loving your neighbor (loving your neighbor is why we make the world a better place right?), but also to love and praise God. You dont have to report good acts to God, he knows already. And no matter how much **** people talk about repenting, a true apology will not just come from saying sorry to God, but also from following it up with the ones you hurt. Repenting to God is made mostly for sins that affect your relationship with him, such as cursing him lol.

And as for going to hell, I dont think anyone has the right to tell you where you are going. We are not saved by our good deeds or our love for God, but rather because he is merciful. Youre absolutely right, being good, doing good is exactly what God calls us to do, and if I had the key to heaven I would give it to you friend, but no one really knows 100% of who is going where. Traditional religion calls upon a little more though, and its what I said earlier, giving glory and praise to God. Does this ensure youre going to heaven? Not even in the least bit. But it is something I believe every God-fearing person should do. When you die, youre body is definitely worm food, but I dont believe in a God so that I have a place to go when I die. I believe in a God because I see his "presence" in my everyday life, and I love him for the things I have. Hope this cleared up some stuff for you.

What do you mean, nobody knows 100% where they're going? Open the Bible.
I believe in God. But i hate religion. Christianity is not a religion. Religion is a man's way of getting to God through good works and trying to do something good to get on God's good side. It always fails. Religion is a way to control and manipulate people. Christianity is just accepting what God did for people, realizing we dont deserve it. I do have to admit that Christianity caught a bad rep based on a few that call themselves that but live like they dont believe it.
The only thing i can say is Jesus. Its a historical fact that He lived, died and resurrected. The question is do you want to accept or resist it? Jesus lived a holy life, without sin, to pay the penalty for our shortcomings. Its something we cannot do by being good (whatever that means) or doing good things. The bottom line is pick up a Bible and just check it out. Give it an honest shot. If you dont believe it, just read it for wisdom and knowledge, at least you'll know what the whole book is about. Im not forcing anyone to believe it, im just proposing a different idea. I know its highly unpopular these days but i think its something everyone should consider.

That'd be like saying "What do you mean you don't know what the world is really about? Watch 'The Matrix."

That sounds kind of unreasonable.

Did you really just say that? We're questioning the bible and you then use the questioned subject as a source?

Yet you use the bible as your sole source of your faith... hypocrisy much?

As a Muslim It is suggested upon me by Prophet Muhammad to read the Bible and the Torah, because they are believed to be holy books, even by the muslims. But the thing is, where is the bible today? its been changed so many times we do not even know, so how can you use it as a reliable source?

I agree, the Bible is a good read, but im sorry, the bible does not definitively say who is going where. You have to agree with me that some verses contradict others, and even though it is right to accept Jesus as your savior, I do not believe that faith without actions guarantees you salvation.

wow you are a very reasonable person to even say that your book has verses that contradicts others. See i do not believe that the Bible was supposed to be like that, i believe it was supposed to be perfect but people changed it.. why? because maybe they wanted to have control over the millions of people that would follow Christianity, or maybe cuz they were bored. who knows

BTW I hope you realize this post makes no sense to me.

But i hate religion. -ok, got it

Christianity is not a religion. -kinda following still

Religion is a man's way of getting to God through good works and trying to do something good to get on God's good side. It always fails. sure, makes sense

Religion is a way to control and manipulate people. ok, this can be true

so from these points, I got: Religion = bad. Christianity =/= religion. IE- Christianity is not bad?

I agree. once upon a time it was perfect, but like many have said, things have changed. It stems from different interpretations and different translations. So connotations and denotations are thrown around. In addition, protestants have cut many of the books from catholic bibles. The important thing really is that the bible gives guidance and offers some history. If one really wanted to know all history, he would have to break open everything- Qur'an, dead sea scrolls, lost scripture, stuff theologians have in their library.

Good reads, on the conference RC conference held in march on Evolution, and a summary on the RC position on Evolution.

Hahaha. REALLY?! Please provide us ONE example of historical evidence that supports "the fact" of his existence.

not to jump into the debate on this one, but there is as much historical evidence in writing about Jesus being a historical person in the early Church Fathers, as there are for people like Socrates as a historical person, its in the writing. If you look at the writings of the Early Church, Pope St. Linus AD64/67 - AD76/79, Pope Saint Anacletus, AD79-AD88, Pope St Clement I AD88-AD101 and other Early Church Fathers that were purported, evidenced in their writings, to be there and have been disciples of Jesus's and his apostles ending with John dying circa 99/100 AD. And I don't recall too many people willing to be martyred and sent to the Roman Colosseum in the name of Socrates, though drinking hemlock is pretty badass. But now we're straying from the OP's post.

Yes this is actually true. The thing your friend does not seem to understand is how boundless the galaxy is. The planet earth was just that lucky junkyard that seemed to be in the perfect conditions for the formation/development of organic life. Earth is just one planet that we know of so far that can inhabit life out of many many planets and moons. As small as that chance is, it happens. It's like saying the chances of a child in a third world country will grow up to be in the PGA tour is 1:46,000,000. It still happens right? Your friend should take an astronomy class. It helped me alot =)

I have to add... Is there historical (credible) evidence to support that Jesus resurrected? I don't wanna laugh at this but... its kind of hard not to.

If god created H1N1 are people supposed to let gods punishment take the lives of the people around them so those that fall victim can be with god? Should we not have the institution of medicine and medical practice for the natural functioning of mother nature? I hate how everything good is associated with God and everything bad is something about Satan. That seems very.... ehhh off.
