Watch thread...

What is your favourite watch, good websites for buying used watches, etc.

Seems a popular topic...

This is a great local site: http://clockmaker.com.au/

Couple of the boys in the office bought their Rolex's from him.

Anyone bought from overseas websites? I want to make the most of this dollar but don't have any trips planned till next February- too dodgy buying good watches on the net?

I was going to buy my Mrs a ladies Rolex, and he strongly suggested I place a deposit on it, as there was a lot of interest in it this was before he'd go and get it out of a vault/safe deposit box (I hadn't even been down there to see it). I also had to make an appointment to see it days in advance. Another mate had a similar experience with him, could have just been an isolated incident though and he has some great pieces.

If in Perth:

- Rolex -

Smales Jewellers, talk to Ron Smales or Brian. They look after me very well all the time. I used to go to Rosendorffs as we did our wedding rings with them. I moved to Smales as I went to school with Rons son Joel needless to say he looks after me well with my Rolex's and jewellery. They have just expanded their premises and are a very good service provider.

- Tag other Swiss etc -

Watches of Switzerland. I bought my Monaco and some other pieces for my wife from them. Talk to Gobik. Good bloke, he will talk turkey and discount with bugger all discussion.

- Preowned or wanting to consign your watch -

The swiss watch box. Trinity arcade next to Rosendorffs. Good selection, prices are relatively in line with market values.

+1 on those 3 , definately the places to buy watches in Perth, though Swiss watch box can be a bit $$ for second hand watches, though they are generally as new and so you getting what you pay for ...

Watches are my biggest vice, I'm glad to see that we have some fellow enthusiasts on the forum! I would recommend Watches of Switzerland on Collins Street. Hourglass are alright for some entry level brands, but don't really stock rarer timepieces.

I buy all my watches in Canada. True story.

Some of my favs - Patek, IWC, Jaeger, Omega, Rolex, Breitling

Watch choice obviously depends on attire and occassion.

Baller!

Going forward, i'm going to be using a mates jeweller in HK, i guess due to being such a larger market the pricing is just so much sharper there! Like pretty much all shopping in HK; still can't get over the savings that can be had on gold & diamonds (certified) there. I picked up the missus a Longines when i was there last (her choice, not mine) for a steal & she loves it.

Damn , some nice watches you guys like. I've had the same watch for the past 8 years , so maybe it's time to update. Definitely going to check out some of those sites.

Longines' are still very respectable watches. You make it sound like a POS haha.

Lol, *flamesuit on* i think of Longines in the same vein as i think of TAG, upmarket-mass-market watches, to use a car analogy, those two are BMW & Mercedes where your Omega's & Rolex's are your Lambo's & Ferrari's, i guess that makes your Patek's & alike the equivalent of a Zonda.

and JLC.....well, it's like an Aston Martin All class.

Look, Tag's arent bad watches either, probably overrated if anything. However, TAG glasses are crap.
